It becomes clear that the murderer was looking for film footage showing the rebel leader Bombé committing a double murder. Paul follows a trail that leads to the high-class call girl, Jackie Lanciers, on whom Léon Tchité lavished all of his money. When Paul enters Jackie's apartment, someone is waiting for him.

After an accident caused by Paul Gerardi, he is suspended from the case. Paul makes an appointment with call girl, Jackie. Through her, he obtains material against General Bombé, who wants to seize power in Kitangi. Paul discovers the Private bank Minnebach is financially supporting the mass murderer Bombé to bring him to power. At stake: two diamond mines. Paul the bank turns to Martine Carlier, the leading figure in Salamander, for help. Martine has a way to keep Paul quiet.

Paul now has a photograph of the murder committed by General Bombé, but the film footage remains missing. Martine has a plan for stopping Paul from finding the film. She enlists Jamie as a ‘lover-boy’ to seduce Nicola. She is hoping this will gain her access to Gerardi’s home, where the film is presumably hidden. The Secret Service P9 is also after the film footage, because it could ‘damage State interests’. This means Paul is being targeted from all sides. In the end, Jamie seduces Nicola.

Bombé asks the Belgian Prime Minister to recognise him as president. The Prime Minister is apparently under tremendous pressure and doesn't dare refuse him. Now that Jamie has the film, he wants to cut ties with everyone, but his feelings for Sofie get the better of him.
