The Incident Longed to Happen

Broide, a petty criminal working for the Autonomy's undertaking company, makes a side income by smuggling goods into the Autonomy. Along with his Leibish, his close aide in undertaking and smuggling, he arrives at the home of Anna Blum, a pretty young jazz musician, to collect the corpse of her beloved, Gabriel. Broide tries to console the weeping woman, and promises to contact her right after the funeral. In exchange, she gives him a CD of her music. As their eyes meet, we know they'll meet again.

A Hymn for the Homeless

Broide, coming home from his night with Anna, discovers that things have changed. His hideaway storage, where he keeps his smuggled goods, has been burned down, and his wife Blumi refuses to let him in, telling him that his children have been expelled from their school. At work, Broide argues with his boss. The argument becomes a fistfight, at the end of which Broide shoves Babchik off a ramp behind the supermarket. Broide is taken away by the police but he is given a chance to escape prison.

Of Time and Fear

The episode exists on two different timelines and brings our protagonists to the main point of action: Broide and Anna's kidnapping of Goni. We being in a public restroom somewhere in the Secular State, where Broide, Goni and Anna all don disguises, ready to go on the run. Then, we flashback to the events that built up to this important moment and the steps, and missteps, they took along the way as they decided to become fugitives.

High Are the Walls of Our Heart

Broide, Anna, and Goni climb aboard a Palestinian truck. They plan to go to Amman through the Palestinian Autonomy, and fly to Kreinitz, where they will meet the Rebbe and hand over the girl. As they make their way through, the Rebbe of Kreinitz stops at a police station, where, along with his daughter Elka, he is questioned. The Rebbe refuses to cooperate with the investigation. Even when the police bring Goni's mother to confront Elka, they realize she really doesn't know where the child is.

Things Turned Out Differently

Broide and Anna stand at the Kreinitz train station. Broide is overcome with anxiety and suggest they take the next train to the next station, which is the last. Goni is probably waiting there – she has nowhere else to go. Goni, inside the train car, searches for someone who can help her. She spots the conductor, who's checking the passengers' tickets. She pulls at his sleeve and wordlessly asks for help. What will happen to the lovers on the run and the girl they kidnapped? Time will tell.
